4A. Delayed Gratification

When I hear the words delayed gratification I automatically think about something that takes a longer time. However the real definition is the ability to wait in order to obtain something you want.  In my life there has always been a delayed gratification like graduating high school and earning my diploma and now that I’m in college I expect that the next 4 years (hopefully) will be my delayed gratification. Reason why is because I have patience in order to graduate on time and earn my degree in my major Social Work. In today’s society people often think that Americans hate to wait, that we have no patience. I find that statement to be believable, but its not just only Americans but people in general because not everybody has patience or love to wait. Think about it, who loves to wait nobody. Everybody wants what they want when they want it. So it’s not really fair to stereotype Americans on how they hate waiting and not having patience.  As a society I feel that majority of the population value instant gratification because again if they want it they want it they don’t want to wait because some think if they wait they will loose the passion that they had for it. I feel that we should change the way people think and provide that tool that we need which is delayed gratification because nothing comes easy in life. I do feel that technology plays a role because technology is everywhere and if you want it you get. There are million things you could do on the Internet and get what you want.
Having delayed gratification is a skill that most people develop around the 3 or 4 but it’s a skill that anybody and any age can live so there’s no reason why people cant have patience.
